Biography

Anita is a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical addictions specialist who offers behavioral health, employee assistance, mediation, and addictions counseling. Additionally, she offers sports counseling and consulting services to current and former athletes, their families, athletic and university personnel, and other professionals serving this unique population.

Anita is a founding member of the National Alliance of Social Workers in Sports. She serves on the executive team and as co-chair of the Pro Sports Committee. She is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Durham (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and Union Baptist Church. She is Chair of the Durham County Stepping Up Initiative and serves as the Nominating Committee Chair of the Durham Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.

Anita is a NC certified forensic evaluator who determines defendants’ capacity to stand trial. She is also certified in NC to perform First Level Involuntary Commitment examinations for citizens at risk of harm and/or danger to self and others, and a certified NC Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Substance Abuse Evaluator. She is the Assistant Minister of Congregational Care and Counseling at Union Baptist Church in Durham, NC, a congregation that exceeds 4,000 members. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Social Work at North Carolina Central University. Anita obtained the Master of Social Work Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Bachelor of Social Work Degree from East Carolina University, and a graduate certificate in Sports Counseling from California University of Pennsylvania. She is contracted to work with student athletes at North Carolina Central University, a NCAA Division I school. A 33.5-year social work veteran, Anita offers individual and group clinical supervision for LCSW, LCAS, LPC Associates, CSACs and CSAC Interns. She has served as a field instructor for college students pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work, psychology, criminal justice, counseling, and human services since 1985.
