Biography

John Donovan volunteered as a facilitator for Conflict Resolution workshops at Folsom State Prison from 1995 to 2001.  He completed his certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor in 2000 while working at Transitional Living and Community Support, with mentally ill, homeless, chemically-addicted individuals from 1998 to 2003.  From 2003 to 2015, John contracted with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office facilitating Relapse Prevention, Personal Development and Intentional Living Groups with violent offenders and addicts at the Main Jail and at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center.  He has lived in recovery from drugs and alcohol for 28 years and has been working with men throughout his recovery process, either in workshops or men’s groups, inside and outside of institutions.  He has completed a 52 week Men’s Accountability Program and has been a Violence Intervention Program facilitator for the past 16 years.  John has conducted numerous workshops in the community, separate from his work with incarcerated individuals.
