The Foundation Board is proud to present the 31st annual North Carolina Summer School for Alcohol and Drug Studies as a premier training event for 2008. The School schedule and format features changes suggested from last year’s participants and includes a combination of training activities, social events and ample time to explore the local area. The school is planned to foster learning and create a spirit of community for all participants.

This year's School is designed to serve the needs of various persons working in the field of chemical dependency as well as school educators and health care professionals. Outstanding faculty possessing excellent credentials and expertise will present 19 concurrent track sessions, an opening speaker, a banquet speaker, and 30 mini-track sessions.

As in previous years, the 2008 Summer School will be affiliated with UNC-Wilmington. The university features a beautiful, spacious campus, modern facilities, and a commitment by the Division for Public Service and Extended Education staff to provide excellent service and an atmosphere conducive to the needs of School participants and faculty.

Wilmington's coastal location provides recreational and leisure opportunities to enhance your stay at the School. Located just six miles from the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the relaxed lifestyle provides a diversified selection of fun activities ... golf, tennis, fishing, boating, scuba diving, hydro-sliding, water skiing, windsurfing, and swimming, or just relaxing on beautiful, sandy beaches.

Wilmington boasts fine boutiques and shopping malls with many new stores and attractions. Included are theaters, museums, the U.S.S. North Carolina battleship, The Cape Fear Museum, the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, the historic Thalian Center for the Performing Arts and a multimillion-dollar Screen Gems film studio. Beautiful historic buildings and homes along charming streets beckon you to Wilmington's historic district. Additional information about Wilmington, its motels, restaurants, and other amenities may be obtained by visiting our Wilmington Information page.

And finally, the university offers an open and spacious campus that serves as an inviting haven for study and leisure. Amenities include a fitness trail, outdoor track, jogging trail, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, library facilities and wildflower preserve, all within easy walking distance.
