Biography

Sarah Potter, MPA is the Executive Director of the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina. She has the responsibility for representing the interests of substance used disorder prevention, treatment and recovery organizations and professionals in the state. Ms. Potter has 25 years of diverse experience and is recognized as a national expert in the behavioral health field. Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, she served as Chief of Community Wellness, Prevention, and Health Integration at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. She previously served as the Director of Health Policy and Development for the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health where she led statewide health policy efforts through Medicaid Expansion and patient protections to ensure confidentiality in the state Health Information Exchange. Ms. Potter served the Illinois Attorney General as a public policy advisor, where she led efforts in gang crime, youth and drug courts, and drug policy initiatives. In this role, she developed effective statewide strategies to reduce drug use and built public support for better drug policies. Sarah holds Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degrees from Southern Illinois University.
